The ARChive of Contemporary Music is a not-for-profit archive, music library and research center located in New York City. The ARChive collects, preserves and provides information on the popular music of all cultures and races throughout the world from 1950 to the present. Since the ARChive's founding in 1986 our holdings have grown to over 1.5 million sound recordings, making the ARChive the largest popular music collection in the United States.
Mukul Dey Archives is a private archive, located at Santiniketan, West Bengal, India. Mukul Dey Archives has come out with its first publication "Japan Theke Jorasanko" (ISBN: 81-7819-044-3) in January 2005. This is a compilation of Mukul Dey's letters and diary fragments (1916-17). Edited and annotated by Satyasri Ukil.
The Archives of American Art was founded in Detroit in 1954 by Edgar P. Richardson, then Director of the Detroit Institute of Arts and Lawrence A. Fleischman, a Detroit businessman and active young collector. An active Oral History Program serves as a valuable companion resource to the collections. Placing collections and oral histories online now replaces microfilming, and other digital projects provide unprecedented access.
In December 1937, while the war in Spain continued, the first U.S. volunteers who returned from fighting organized a formal group named Veterans of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade (VALB). The fifty-some veterans elected Paul Burns the first commander. Early activities focused on awakening the public to the issues of the war, seeking to end U.S. non-interventionism, and assisting the wounded and needy volunteers.
