Alexa: Friend or Foe for Vista Users?
After monitoring traffic figures over the last few months, I have noticed that our Alexa statistics have been dropping off. In fact, they have declined over 50%, which is definitely an alarming number.
The reasoning for this has not been hard to comprehend, and the data indicates that Alexa is misinterpreting our figures.
Take, for instance, the following: Alexa traffic has decreased by over 50%, but Madmouse Web Directory statistics have increased by 10%. These figures don’t make sense, but after taking a closer look at the web site statistics, I realized that 40% decline can be attributed to Microsoft Windows Vista.
Basically, Alexa doesn’t have a plug-in for those who are currently running Microsoft Vista. Now, there are two major players for submissions to web directories, one is PR, also know as PageRank and the other Alexa Traffic. For the most part, I am not one to put much faith in either when making a decision regarding where to submit my directory listing. However, the scales tip in favor of PR and Alexa when the majority ponder the success of their site.
So, the question remains: is Alexa a friend or foe?
