Sierra Technical Institute was established in 1993, by owners Dean and Pamela Fender. The business began after Dean retired from the United States Air Force, and he began holding computer training seminars in their own home. As their business expanded, so did the range of services they provided. Instead of being merely a training center, Sierra Technical Institute became Sierra Tech Computers, now conducting computer sales and service as well.
