Back in 1941, my Grandfather, the late George Altmeyer managed to save $4,000 which he used to establish the very first Altmeyer Home Store in New Kensington, Pennsylvania in a small basement room. This was no easy task considering he didn’t have the benefit of a high school education and also had a young family.
