In the early 1980s, Dr. Race Foster and Dr. Marty Smith were operating four veterinary clinics in northern Wisconsin, each of which included boarding and grooming facilities. In their work with pet owners and pet professionals, two things became increasingly clear: People needed a source outside the "doctor's office" where they could purchase quality pet supplies at affordable prices, and Everyone they talked to wanted more information on how to care for their pets.
The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) is an international association of more than 32,000 veterinary care providers who treat companion animals. Established in 1933, AAHA is well known among veterinarians and pet owners for its standards for hospitals and pet health care. Over 3,000 veterinary hospitals voluntarily participate in the AAHA hospital evaluation program.
