Researchers at the University of California (Davis) have developed a genetic test to identify carriers of the homozygous recessive gene that causes the skin disease HERDA (Hereditary equine regional dermal asthenia, also known as hyperelastosis cutis). Identification of animals that carry this gene prior to breeding will enable responsible breeders to either eliminate carrier stock from their herds or make educated breeding decisions
Dr. Jim Kubiak is an Equine Reproductive Physiologist who moved to Ramona, CA in January 2001. He owns & operates The Breeder's Assistant, a business that provides reproductive services and delivers reproductive short courses to horse breeders. Prior to moving to Ramona, Dr. Kubiak served as an Extension Horse Specialist with the Cooperative Extension Service at North Carolina State University for three years.
The society is a non profitable community with special emphasis on reproduction in domestic animals and wild animals as well. The society supports all activities to stimulate education and research in the field of reproduction, especially for clinical Aspects, biotechnology and Physiology of Reproduction. The society provides a College of Theriogenology. On a regular base the society will organize meetings and workshops. Cooperation with other national and international societies is welcome.
