The Australian Garden History Society is the leader in concern for and conservation of significant cultural landscapes and historic gardens through committed, relevant and sustainable action. Formed in 1980, the AGHS brings together people from diverse backgrounds united by an appreciation of and concern for our parks, gardens and cultural landscapes as part of Australia's heritage.
The Garden Visit and Travel Guide were first published in the autumn of 1998. The content is edited by Tom Turner, author of English garden design: history and styles since 1650 (1986) which formed the starting point for the GVTG website. Tom Turner teaches garden history and design at the University of Greenwich. He has also written: City as landscape: a post-postmodern view of planning and design (1996) which has a discussion of design theory in relation to parks and gardens.
