Since 1974, my background was servicing large computer systems. Back then a large computer system cost well over a million dollars, and they were housed in huge data centers. Major computer manufacturers paid respectable salaries. Everything was going real well until a guy by the name of Bill Gates came along. His operating system and the inexpensive personal computer "PC" concept revolutionized the computer industry.
Mayville Engineering Company, Inc. was founded in 1945 by cousins Leo and Ted Bach Huber. The original manufacturing facility was a rented garage building in a back alley off Mayville's Main Street. Total assets of the company included a few worn metal working tools, a little cash, and an abundance of grand ideas. The original letterhead bore the title, Tools, Dies, and Special Machinery.
