The goal of the Mathematics Archives is to provide organized Internet access to a wide variety of mathematical resources. The primary emphasis is on materials which are used in the teaching of mathematics. Currently the Archives is particularly strong in its collection of educational software. Other areas, ranging from laboratory notebooks and problem sets to lecture notes and reports on innovative methods, are growing.
The Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) was originally conceived in June 1945 as the Canadian Mathematical Congress. The founding members hoped that "this congress [would] be the beginning of important mathematical development in Canada". Seeking to end confusion with the quadrennial mathematical congresses, a name change was considered for many years. Finally, upon its incorporation as a non-profit, charitable organization in 1979.
MathWorldTM is the web's most extensive mathematical resource, provided as a free service to the world's mathematics and internet communities as part of a commitment to education and educational outreach by Wolfram Research, makers of Mathematica. Math World has been assembled over more than a decade by Eric W. Weisstein with assistance from thousands of contributors. Since its contents first appeared online in 1995.
The Math Forum is the comprehensive resource for math
education on the Internet. Some features include a K-12 math expert help service, an
extensive database of math sites, online resources for teaching and learning
math, plus much more.
MACSI-net is therefore set up as a network where both enterprises and university institutions co-operate to solve these problems, to their mutual benefit. In particular the network focuses on strategies to increase the interaction between industry and academia. The other hand academic institutes are still not sufficiently aware of the importance of taking up their role in a joint tackling of both smaller and larger problems.
