The Association began as a wheelchair sports club in the 1960s. However, since 1977, the Association's membership has extended to include people with all physical disabilities.

USA Paralympic Cyclist Dory Selinger. Dory Selinger was a cyclist, amputee since 1993 three-time world record holder national, European and world champion. Selinger is one of American's best-known Paralympics cyclists. He has claimed repeated national titles in track, and road racing and time trial competitions in the Disabled Division at the U.S. Cycling Championships. He has won victories at the 1998 and 2002 World Championships, 1999 and 2001 European Championships.
